Hey there, beach-loving pup parents! This sandy stretch of Del Mar North Beach - lovingly called ‘Dog Beach’ - is a slice of canine paradise tucked away behind the bluffs in sunny San Diego. Here are some deets for the pawfect day of play…
Where to Park Your Pack
Parking at Del Mar Dog Beach is straightforward. Street parking is plentiful along Camino Del Mar. Street parking is paid, costing $4 per hour or $20 per day. Patrons simply pay at the parking machine by swiping a credit card. Friendly reminder - Don’t forget to display the parking receipt on your car dashboard before you dart off - the local parking enforcement is active and isn’t afraid to ticket if your receipt isn’t displayed properly. In the off season, or during non-peak hours, parking is an absolute breeze. However, parking at peak hours in the high summer season might require a little bit of patience. Our pro tip? Either arrive early to snag a good spot or simply expand your search. Street parking is available on both sides (north and south) of the overpass bridging the San Dieguito River. As a backup plan, street parking is available on Via De La Valle too. You may have to make a U-turn or two, or walk slightly further, but it’s totally worth it!
Leash Laws: To Leash or Not To Leash?
Off-Leash Rules: From the day after Labor Day through June 15th, dogs are allowed to frolic off-leash on the beach from 29th Street north to the Solana Beach border. However, during the summer months (June 16th through Labor Day), dogs must be leashed after 8 AM.
Other Amenities
While there aren’t many amenities directly on the beach, the surrounding area more than makes up for it. There are a handful of portable toilets for hoomans located at the north entrance of the beach, close to the main street. Next to the restrooms, there’s a water fountain for you and fido to hydrate. There’s no dog wash station here so head over to Dirty Dogs in nearby Solana Beach to rinse off as needed.
